Where We Come From

In 2006 funding through the Council of Australian Government was provided to enable the establishment of an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Workforce tasked with delivering services to remote communities.

The report Violence in Indigenous Communities found that there was a great need for alcohol & other drugs services in remote communities in the Northern Territory. Funding was allocated to specific Department of Health (DoH) Primary Health Care Centres and Aboriginal Medical Services to develop and implement a Remote AOD Workforce framework. We are funded by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and have grown from just 8 remote AOD Workers to now over 40 across 30 communitities.
